Choquequirao 8 days is another Inca trail nicknamed Machupicchu’s other sister; this spectacular archaeological site was hidden in the mountains for centuries and was only recently discovered. The trek to choquequirao passes through some of Peru’s most impressive mountains lush jungles, deep canyons and snow-capped peaks.

Choquequirao is believed to be up to twice the size of Machu Picchu (the exact size is unknown as most of it is still covered by jungle), the road to Choquequirao takes you through the sights of the Apurimac Valley. Hike steep roads and trails and dense cloud forest, dusty desert and spectacularly scenic passes with views of spectacular landscapes.

Day 1:
Cusco – cachora – Capuliyoc – Chikiscca -Santa Rosa:
The pick up from your hotel will be early between 4:00am to 4:30am. Then we head towards the place of Capuliyoc the trip consists of 3 hours to reach the point of the hike. During the course of the trip assume the window to be able to appreciate the mountains, very striking landscapes that has our Peru. Once we arrive to Capuliyoc (2900 m.a.s.l., /2599 ft.) we will enjoy the first breakfast prepared by the chef of ALI PERU TREKS. After breakfast we get ready for our expedition 4 hours until we arrive to the point of our lunch, most of it downhill during the journey we can enjoy the magnificent views of the valley and the Apurimac river. In chikiscca (1900 m.a.s.l /6289 ft.) we will enjoy our lunch. After lunch and a short siesta, you will be back on the trail and cross the Apurimac River for another 2 hours of uphill trekking to our first campsite, Santa Rosa (2200 m.a.s.l /7282 ft.). Here we will camp for the night and you will have your first dinner and then go to bed early.

DAY 2:
SANTA ROSA – MARANPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO:
Very early in the morning we will wake up with a hot tea once you have woken up you will have 30 minutes time to enjoy the tea and get ready for breakfast then we prepare for the challenging but spectacular trekking of the day we will ascend uphill for approximately 5 hours until we reach the village called Maranpata, where we will have our lunch and taste a sugar cane drink prepared by the locals. From this lunch spot, we will see a mystical part of Choquequirao in another direction. After a brief siesta, you will continue uphill for 2 more hours to reach the second campsite, located in Choquequirao Park (2,950 m.a.s.l. / 9,676 ft.). This afternoon, we will go to explore a part of the Choquequirao Inca site, then return to our campsite. You will have your happy hour with tea and popcorn, dinner and then bed.

DAY 3:
CHOQUEQUIRAO-PINCHIUNUYOQ-RIO BLANCO-MAIZAL:
Today is another sunrise, we will wake up early with a hot tea and get ready to enjoy breakfast. This archaeological site is considered the last Inca city, today we will return to explore the other part of Choquequirao after exploring we will climb a ridge for 2 hours to Abra Choquequirao (3,320m/10,873ft). From this view we will see the Vilca bamba mountain range and the impressive snow-capped Choquetacarpo glacier.
Then we have a 2 hour descent to the ruins of Pinchinuyoc. We will take a short break at these ruins to admire the majestic views.
From there, we descend to the Rio Blanco (1,990 m/ 6,527 ft), another 1 hour steep descent. Here you can enjoy the luxury of the river and take a swim if you wish. Here is where we will have lunch.
We will then begin a difficult ascent to a small cleared agricultural area on the mountain, Maizal. For many people, this is the most difficult section of the entire Choquequirao to Machu Picchu trek, and the ascent is a difficult 4 hour zigzagging climb. Maizal is located at 3,000 m/9,930 ft. Maizal is our campsite to spend the night.

DAY 4: MAIZAL-ABRA SAN JUAN-YANAMA
Although today is another day, we will have an early breakfast. The ALIPERUTREKS group will wake you up with a hot tea followed by breakfast. After breakfast we climb uphill for four hours passing through the victoria mine and then take a short rest and admire the brilliance of the outcropping rocks that illustrate the high concentration of minerals and metals, and the reason for the ancient mines.
We will then continue our ascent to the Abra San Juan pass. This is our place for lunch.
This is also the best place to see Andean condors. We will also be able to observe the Vilcabamba Valley, which is the lowest city of the Incas, as well as the Pumasillo glacier.
After lunch we will descend to the village of Yanama for a 3 hour hike. This will be our campsite for the night.

Day 5:
Yanama – habra yanama -Totora:
After breakfast in Yanama we climb 5 hours uphill to Yanama pass (4,672 m /15,324 ft), the highest point of our Choquequirao trek. We will see many waterfalls along the way and meet local people. At the top we will see the Apu Salkantay and part of the Salkantay Trek, then descend for two hours and have lunch on the way. After lunch we walk 2 hours downhill to our camp in Totora.

Day 6:
TOTORA-CCOLLPAPAMPA-LUCMABAMBA:
We will start the day very early in the morning and the aliperutreks chef will wake you up. We will walk for 5 to 6 hours in gentle uphill and downhill stretches.
We will hike through the rainforest, following the Santa Teresa River trail. We will have the opportunity to see multiple plantations of coffee, passion fruit, avocado, and crop fields.
Along this trail you will also see the most beautiful waterfall of the Choquequirao trek. We will arrive at Lucmabamba to enjoy a delicious lunch after lunch you will have enough time to relax and take a well deserved rest as we will spend the night at the same campsite.

Day 7:
Lucmabamba – Llaqtapata – Aguas Calientes:
we will wake up early and have breakfast. first, we will visit the organic coffee farm and learn about the process of harvesting organic coffee. then, you will continue for 3 hours on an ancient Inca trail until you reach the Inca site of llactapata where we will have a complete tour. This is the place where you will have your first view of machu picchu. leaving llactapata, we start a 3 hour descent to hidroeléctrica, where we will have lunch. then you will walk for three more hours along the train tracks to aguas calientes. upon arrival in aguas calientes you will check in at your hotel. dinner will be at the best restaurant.

Day 8:
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cuzco:
We will wake up very early to take the first bus to the city of Machu Picchu, where we will be the first visitors of the day to enjoy the magic and mystery of one of the wonders of the world Take the first buses to Machu Picchu and explore with your guide for 2 hours after exploring you will take the bus back to aguas calientes to have lunch together with your tour guide but you must keep in mind that having lunch with your group is optional and is not included in the cost of the tour then you will take the afternoon train 2: 55 or 3:20 pm return to Ollantaytambo where aliperutreks driver will be waiting to take you back to cusco and drop you off at your hotel.

- This trek covers a total distance of 90 km at high altitude. We recommend that you acclimatise in Cusco 2 or 3 days before doing the choquequirao to machupicchu
