The Dream of Ali Huamán: Forged on the Paths of Huayllaccocha
The story of Ali Peru Treks did not begin in a climate-controlled office; it started on the dusty trails and snow-capped peaks of the Andes. Our founder, Ali Huamán, was born in the remote and tiny community of Huayllaccocha. There, Quechua is not a language from a textbook; it is the living tongue of the Incas that flows through every conversation and unites families in a single heartbeat.
Life in the high mountains forged Ali’s character from a very young age. There was no school in his village, so as a child, Ali along with other local children took on a daily challenge that proved his determination: he had to walk one hour downhill and another hour uphill, under the intense sun or freezing Andean cold, just to reach the district of Huarocondo to receive an education.
Upon finishing school, driven by the maturity that comes from constant effort, Ali decided at the age of 16 to embark on the demanding world of tourism. Following in his father’s footsteps, he started at the most noble and sacrificial foundation of this industry: working as a porter.
For three years, Ali carried the gear of travelers—and his own dreams—along the Inca Trail. He experienced firsthand the raw reality of the support staff: the frigid nights sleeping on the ground, the extreme physical exertion of every step, and, above all, the lack of appreciation that local workers often suffer at the hands of large foreign companies.
This experience became the engine for his transformation. Ali realized that to change the reality for his people, he had to prepare himself at the highest level. He studied for five years at the University for a degree in Tourism, graduating as an Official Guide. After leading expeditions for another half-decade with the most popular companies in the region, he decided it was time to create something with its own soul.
In 2023, Ali Peru Treks was officially born. The vision was clear: to create an agency that was by and for our people. Ali wanted to prove that a 100% local operator could offer superior quality compared to any multinational, but with a human respect that money simply cannot buy.
Today, Ali Peru Treks serves as a direct bridge between the modern traveler and the ancestral wisdom of the Incas.
Our Social Project: Sowing Seeds of Hope
Ali did not found this company just to lead tours; he founded it to protect future generations. With the proceeds from your trips, Ali funds a social project in Huayllaccocha: a support school where children learn to master Spanish without losing their native Quechua. Our goal is that no child has to suffer the discrimination Ali lived through, giving them the tools to thrive with pride in the modern world.
We are the heirs of these valleys, and every tour is an opportunity to honor our past and build a dignified future for the children of the Andes.
Why Travel with Ali Peru Treks?
Choosing Ali Peru Treks is more than just booking a tour; it is opening an authentic door to the heart of the Andes alongside those of us who were born in them. As a 100% local operator with Quechua roots, we offer an experience that large international corporations simply cannot replicate. These are the reasons why we are your best ally in Peru:
- Genuine Quechua Leadership: We are locals from Cusco who call these mountains «home.» Our founder, Ali Huamán, worked as a porter and a guide long before creating this company; we know every trail, legend, and medicinal plant through heritage, not textbooks.
- Small Groups and Human Connection: We steer clear of mass tourism. We maintain small groups to guarantee personalized attention, allowing you to connect deeply with the landscape and our living culture.
- Social Commitment with Purpose: By traveling with us, you directly support the community of Huayllaccocha. Your reservation funds our local support school, where we help Quechua-speaking children integrate into the educational system without losing their identity.
- Mountain Excellence: We provide premium camping equipment, certified bilingual guides, and strict safety protocols (including oxygen and first aid) so that your only concern is enjoying the adventure.
- High-Altitude Gourmet Gastronomy: Our mountain chefs transform local organic ingredients into five-star banquets, even at 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) above sea level.
