The 7 Lagoons of Ausangate 1 Day Hike is a breathtaking journey where you conquer some of the highest accessible points in the region. We ensure the logistics are tight, allowing you to experience this remote, pristine area in a single day without compromising safety. Our specialized transport and early departure are designed for maximum efficiency, minimizing exposure to the altitude while maximizing your time enjoying the glacial lakes: Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, Q’omercocha, Orqo Otorongo, and China Otorongo.

This tour is a celebration of the high Andean landscape. Imagine the sky reflected in the turquoise, green, and blue waters, surrounded by the towering, snow-capped Vilcanota range. Beyond the scenic beauty, you will observe Andean birds, alpacas, llamas, and vizcachas in their natural habitat. We conclude the day with a well-deserved soak in the natural, medicinal hot springs of Pacchanta, a perfect contrast to the cold mountains. For those interested in the multi-day immersion, we also offer the majestic Ausangate Trek To Machupicchu 4D/3N.

The adventure starts early with direct hotel pickup between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. We travel for approximately 3 hours in our comfortable tourist transport to the village of Pacchanta, where a hearty, local breakfast is served. After fueling up, we begin the high-altitude trek.

The hike is approximately 5 hours round trip. We gradually ascend, visiting the succession of seven glacial lagoons, each characterized by its vibrant color and unique reflection of the Apu Ausangate. Your guide focuses on setting a responsible, monitored pace to manage the high altitude effectively. After exploring the last lake, we return to Pacchanta for a delicious, restorative local lunch.

The ultimate reward awaits: relaxation in the medicinal hot springs of Pacchanta, with an unparalleled view of the Vilcanota mountain range. After this perfect closure, we return to the city of Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 6:30 p.m.

The hiking trail reaches points exceeding 4,600 meters (15,091 ft) above sea level. Due to this extreme altitude, it is critical that you are properly acclimatized before attempting this tour, preferably by spending at least 2-3 full days in Cusco.

The hike is rated as Challenging, not because of technical terrain, but exclusively due to the extreme altitude. It requires a moderate level of physical fitness and the ability to manage the effects of thin air. Your guide will set a slow, steady pace to aid acclimatization.

Yes. Given the challenging high altitude of the Ausangate region, our safety protocol mandates that our professional guides carry a full emergency oxygen tank and a comprehensive first-aid kit at all times.

No. While there is no official «permit» system like the Inca Trail, due to the high altitude, remote location, and necessity of specific transport and safety equipment, we strongly recommend only undertaking this hike with an authorized, professional operator like Ali Perú Treks.

The total driving time is approximately 6 hours round trip (3 hours each way). We use comfortable, private tourist transport to make the journey as relaxing as possible before and after the trek.

Yes. Access to the medicinal hot springs in the village of Pacchanta, located near the trailhead, is included in your tour. It is the perfect, therapeutic way to relax your muscles and complete the day’s high-altitude effort.

Layers are essential. You must wear high-quality, thermal base layers, a fleece, and a warm down jacket or insulated outer layer, as temperatures at 4,600m can be freezing, especially early in the morning.

The 7 Lagoons of Ausangate 1 Day Hike is a focused, high-altitude day trip to see the glacial lakes. The multi-day Ausangate Trek is a 4-7 day circuit around the entire mountain, covering 70-80 km and involves overnight camping.

Yes. If you do not have a warm down jacket or trekking poles, these items are available for rent in Cusco. However, we stress that warm, waterproof layers are non-negotiable for safety and comfort.

The altitude will slow your pace and breathing. It can cause minor symptoms like headache or nausea. Our strategy is to ensure proper acclimatization in Cusco, provide hot coca tea, and have emergency oxygen ready. We advise against this tour if you have any pre-existing heart or lung conditions.

Ausangate is one of the most important Apus (mountain deities) in the Inca cosmology. It is revered as a protector and a source of life-giving water for the entire Cusco region. Hiking at its base is a profound spiritual and natural experience.

The dry season, from May to October, is the best time, offering clearer skies and less rain, making the high-altitude trails safer. We recommend avoiding the peak rainy months (November to March).

Yes, the remote nature of the Ausangate region makes it ideal for spotting high-Andean wildlife, including local camelids like alpacas and llamas, and the native vizcachas (small, rabbit-like rodents). You can also look for the elusive Andean Condor.

We provide high-quality, hot, and energy-rich meals (breakfast and lunch) prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Proper nutrition is vital for strenuous high-altitude activity.

Tipping is voluntary but highly appreciated. Given this is a 1-day tour, a smaller tip (approx. $10 – $20 USD per person) for the guide and driver is suggested to thank them for their safe and professional service.

No, mobile signal is generally unavailable in this remote, high-mountain region. This is why our guides carry satellite phones for emergency communication with our Cusco office, guaranteeing safety and reliability.

  • Layers: Warm down jacket or insulating layers (temperatures can drop dramatically).
  • Gear: Waterproof hiking boots, hat, gloves, and sunscreen.
  • Water: Water bottle or Camelbak (2-3 liters minimum). We provide purified water for refills.
  • Money: Extra money for snacks or staff gratuities.
  • Other: Original passport, sunglasses, and personal medication.
