When is the Best Time for this Expedition?
Choosing the right season is crucial for the Salkantay & Inca Trail hybrid trek, as you will cross two different mountain ranges:
- The Dry Season (April to October): This is the premier window for this 7-day odyssey. You will experience crisp mountain air and clear blue skies, essential for the panoramic views at the Salkantay Pass (15,190 ft) and the Dead Woman’s Pass. These months offer the most stable conditions for high-altitude photography.
- The Rainy Season (November to March): During these months, the Andes turn into a lush, emerald paradise. While you should expect periodic rain, the orchids are in full bloom and the mist over the Inca ruins creates a mystical atmosphere. You’ll also enjoy the trails with significantly fewer hikers.
- Important Note: The Inca Trail portion of this trek is closed every February for government maintenance. However, we offer alternative Salkantay routes during this month.
