Itinerary

Cusco City Tour Itinerary — Step by Step

The Golden Temple: Qoricancha

We begin our expedition with a pickup from your hotel to visit the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun). Currently integrated into the Santo Domingo Convent, this site was the spiritual and geographical center of the Inca Empire. Your guide will reveal how this imposing structure served as the golden nexus for the Four Suyos (Antisuyo, Contisuyo, Chinchaysuyo, and Collasuyo), showcasing the finest and most precise Inca architecture in existence.

The Megalithic Wonder: Sacsayhuaman

Next, we head to the outskirts of the city to explore Sacsayhuaman, one of the most iconic landmarks of the Empire. This architectural marvel features massive stones—some reaching 9 meters (30 ft) in height and weighing over 100 tons—perfectly fitted without mortar. Its strategic location offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city of Cusco, having served both religious and defensive purposes for Inca royalty.

The Sanctuary of Mother Earth: Qenqo

Our journey continues to the Qenqo Archaeological Park. This unique site is a labyrinth carved into a natural rock formation, dedicated to ceremonies for Pachamama (Mother Earth). Inside its subterranean chambers, your guide will show you the trapezoidal structures where ancestral rituals and mummification processes were historically performed.

The Red Fortress: Puca Pucara

Our third stop is Puca Pucara, known as the “Red Fortress.” Its stones take on a reddish hue due to high levels of iron in the rock. This site consists of aqueducts, enclosures, and fountains; it is believed to have served as a military outpost for the defense and control of access to the nearby water sanctuary.

The Temple of Water: Tambomachay

To conclude our tour, we will visit Tambomachay. This elegant site features finely carved rock channels and waterfalls sourced from natural mountain springs. It was a sacred precinct dedicated to the Cult of Water, where the Inca elite performed purification rituals and worshiped this vital element.

Return and Drop-off

As part of our service, we offer total flexibility. At the end of the tour, we will transport you directly back to your hotel or, if you prefer, we can drop you off near the Plaza de Armas so you can enjoy an afternoon in the historic center.

Unparalleled Guidance Mesias was an exceptional guide, and this tour company was by far the most superior. All the other groups around us seemed very cookie-cutter and impersonal. They were serving their guests box lunches, while our tour had an incredibly personalized chef experience that paid attention to our dietary restrictions and used local fresh ingredients of the highest caliber. My husband had the guidance he dreamt of, and I was plagued with a severe and debilitating fear of heights I didn’t know I had until getting up the mountain. Mesias helped guide me through the experience by literally holding my hand, and being patient to get me through one the most difficult mental experiences I’ve ever had. Thank you. 10 out of 10 out of 10!

Memories that will last forever There were just the two of us on the trip, and we had an unforgettable time. Everything was exceptionally well organized, and we felt completely at ease. Our cook, Valerio, treated us to fabulous, authentic meals; our mule driver, Guillermo, took care of our luggage and the logistics; and Ciprian, known as Puma, guided us through the four days with excellent organization. The highlight was a fabulous view of the glacier-capped mountains and a lunch with Guellermo’s family, where we got a little closer to traditional Andean life. I would book this tour again in a heartbeat. These are moments I’ll never forget.

Unforgettable experience We had an unforgettable time with Ali Treks. The tour was perfectly planned and organized down to the smallest detail. Ali Treks has the best Route for Lares. We had barely seen any, other people and that felt amazing. Three times a day, the head chef Valerio Huaman served us a magnificent feast. It was the best food I had during my entire trip to Peru. We didn’t have to worry about a thing during those four days—we could just enjoy ourselves. The guide Ciprian Torres Puma was very professional and had an amazing knowledge of the mountains, the traditional rituals, and the history of the Incas. I felt safe and well taken care of at all times. He knows the treks inside and out. I learned so much from him. The mule driver Guellermo Aransabel also took incredible care of us and our luggages. We got to meet his family, and one of the highlights was getting to dance with them in traditional clothing—it was a lively and joyful experience. The muleteer, the head chef, and the guide all have years of experience and either grew up in mountain communities or still live there. I’ll cherish the memories and experiences from this trek forever, and I thank Ali Treks and the team from the bottom of my heart for everything. I would definitely book the Lares Trek with Ali again.

An amaing trekking! The tour was great. We had a sunny day and the view of Machu Picchu from the Sun gate was amazing! Also the hotel and the dinner after the trekking were great. And our guide, Ali Messias, was super helpful and prepared! Just a little suggestion: after your morning visit to Machu Picchu on day 2, book the earliest train possible to Ollantaytambo, since there is nothing to do in Aguas Calientes.

The organization was top-notch from start to finish. We were incredibly impressed by how well-coordinated everything was: The Permits: You can tell they handle the booking details with great care. It was reassuring to know that daily permits are strictly capped at 250 people, which keeps the trail from feeling overcrowded! Luggage Handling: A massive highlight was that the agency provided us with a 5 kg (11 lbs) duffel bag for our gear. We didn’t have to carry any heavy weight during the hike because the company took care of sending it directly on the train to our hotel in Aguas Calientes. Hiking light made the experience twice as enjoyable! The Guide: Extremely professional, deeply knowledgeable about Inca history, incredibly patient, and packed with great energy that kept us motivated every step of the way.
